The electronic seat heating control switches off the power supply to the heating mats if the battery voltage in the vehicle is less than 11.4 V ±0.3 V. The function LEDs however remain on. Power supply to the heating mats is restored when the battery voltage is greater than 12.2 V ±0.3 V for at least 5 seconds.
BMW's heated seats are excellent - they evenly heat the bottom, back, and bolsters, even the little pull-out thigh support bolster on the sport seats. They have 3 temp settings and will remember to come back on automatically if you return to the car within about 15 minutes. They're well-worth the $500. 2014 335i Sedan 6MT.
My routine is this: turn on seat power, adjust seat, turn off seat power. That way, there's no '2 minute delay' if you ever need to adjust the seat. Silly, but that's the way it is. I have '06 E90 seats. Oh, and I must add - I bought 2 seats, and the pass. seatback 'tilt' function was broken.
Thanks. Its probably part of the seat cushion. I think it was around 1200 on my x3 when the sensor failed. Yeah probably shorted lucky you didn't burn a hole in your ass. Some are the entire leather bottom some are just the heat mat. All you gotta do it pull the seat and get down with some hog rings.

Unplug the yellow connector by pulling out on the black part on the side. Inspect. If needed, take apart the yellow connector and check the condition of the terminals. The black/gray plastic will slide out of the yellow. Then push the metal tabs and the terminals will slide out of the plastic connector. K.
I'd like to get heated seats as it does actually get cold in Austin, despite what people think My Google-fu, which isn't super strong, leads me to believe that these seats already have the heaters installed, but they're just not wired up and there's obviously no button on the control panel in the center console.
